Big Lake

No Cover — 7:00pm Show

Big Lake is back at Animales with their warm blend of harmony-rich folk and understated indie roots. Their songs mix subtle grit with a good dose of heart, landing somewhere between intimate and wide-open. It’s honest, easy to sink into, and a perfect fit for a winter night here..

Big Lake first made their mark in 2014 with a self-titled debut that showcased driving indie guitar rock and carefully crafted folk songs. The album’s lush harmonies, layered guitars, and infectious hooks caught the attention of City Pages and earned regular spins on MPR’s 89.3 The Current.

With Short Term Plans, Big Lake strips things back and leans into the Americana roots that have always underpinned their songwriting. Eric Carlson and Patrick Mazurek shape their shared interests of country and folk into an EP that is as sparse as it is inviting, a natural setting for their rustic harmonies and bittersweet narratives. While there are echoes of Gillian Welch & David Rawlings or Trace-era Son Volt, the duo navigates Americana with ease, arriving at a sound that is authentic and singular.
